In November 2018, I embarked on a journey with a raw piece of land—a blank canvas awaiting transformation. Without prior knowledge of construction (I hadn't even handled a drill), and with no road, electricity, or well, I set out to expand my skillset.

For three months, I lived in a tent where the grey house now stands. Armed with power tools and a determination to learn, I hired help to clear trees, construct a road, install electrical lines, and dig a well. However, as frost settled in, my tent home became too cold, prompting me to rent a trailer while designing what would become the 'barn'.

Embracing resourcefulness, I sought second-hand windows and doors and collaborated with a local barn company to bring my architectural vision to life. Creating a concrete form, I poured the foundation with a newfound friend. Slowly but steadily, the exterior structure took shape atop the foundation. Guided by YouTube tutorials and chance encounters with skilled individuals, I taught myself the art of crafting the interior.

After a year of honing my craft on the 'barn', I transitioned my efforts to the round house. This ongoing journey has been one of continuous learning and growth. Today, I've reached a point where I can construct a home from the ground up—a testament to the dedication and support of both my own perseverance and the surrounding community.

This five and a half year process has been a labor of love, marked by connection, and bolstered by the kindness of those around me. I hope you find solace and joy in the effort and affection I've poured into this space.

Nestled in the woods, hidden in the middle of 53 private acres, The Forest Haven will feel like a home away from home. We are 10 minutes from the center of Woodstock, 12 from the center of Saugerties, 15 to Kingston, and 10-30 minutes away from the Hudson Valley's most exquisite hiking trails, waterfalls, and slopes.
